Compassion

What does it mean to have compassion? According to dictionary.com, compassion means "a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering." On Sunday during Elementary Kid's Life the kids learned that "Jesus acted with compassion to help people." We talked about the story in Luke about the grieving mother who had lost her only son. Jesus was walking past her and saw her weeping. He was moved with compassion and raised her son from the dead. WOW! Isn't it awesome to know that we serve a God who cares about every aspect of our lives!

I also thought it was interesting that Pastor David's message on Sunday aligned with what we learned in Kid's Life. (If you weren't here on Sunday, I want to encourage you to order the CD. It was an excellent message.) How many times do we walk past someone who is in need? I can think of many times when I've been so caught up in my own life that I have overlooked someone who was in need. Too many...

Christ Follower...what does that really mean? Look at all of the examples in the New Testament where Jesus had compassion. He didn't walk by and ignore those who were in need. He stopped and was filled with compassion for them. Most of the time these were people who no one else wanted anything to do with. If we are truly followers of Christ we would follow Christ's example and do what he did. Is that always easy? Of course not. It takes us out of our comfort zone. But, we need to follow Christ's example.

Are you teaching and modeling for your children what it means to show compassion? Do they know what it means to be a Christ Follower? Are you making it a priority in your home to model Christ? These are just some questions to think and pray about.

This Saturday, September 27th, is our first Serve Saturday. We are going to a few different parks and handing out water and sports drinks. This is a great way to "reach out" to our community. I want to encourage you to bring your family and participate. We are meeting at MCA at 9am. We will come back to the church and have lunch and share stories. Please let me know if you have any questions about this.

Please let me know if there is anything I can pray with you about or if you need anything. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Fall Has Begun

Fall is here! Summer is over which brings much sadness to many people. For me summer was crazy busy, but in it's crazy busyness, I did find time to have fun and enjoy the sun.

Kid's Life resumed last Wednesday. Wednesday's are a great time for our kids to "Build Committment." We do this by using Royal Rangers and M'Pact Girls Ministries. I'm happy to report that we had 76 kids total in attendance. It was a great evening and I'm blessed with a wonderful team! We had a few new faces and I know we will see even more.

"Big City Studio" has resumed on Sunday mornings during the 9 & 11 am servcies for K - 6th grade. For the next 12 weeks we are seeing "Jesus in Action: Lesson from the Gospels." Sunday mornings are all about kids "Reaching Up to God." Make this a priority for your family. Encourage your kids to "Reach Out" to their friends by inviting them to church. For some kids this is the only exposure they will have to Jesus.

On Sunday we learned that "Jesus has authority in heaven and earth." We talked about the centurion who had great faith in Jesus. He knew that all Jesus had to do was say the word and his servant would be healed. Faith is believing in something you cannot see or hear. How strong is your faith in Christ? Do you believe that Jesus truly does have authority in heaven and earth? Just some questions to think about and talk about with your kids.

Kid's Life Praise & Co. also got off to a great start on Sunday evening. Praise & Co. exists to "Send Kids Into Service." We are gearing up for our fall concert on Sunday, Nov. 23 during the 9 & 11 am services. We are also preparing for Christmas as well. Pastor Karen and her team are excited and know that this is going to be another great year!

It's not too late to get your kids involved in any of these ministries! We highly encourage all kids to participate. What a wonderful opportunity to build spiritual champions!

Make sure you ask your child about their Bible Bookmark. They get one every Sunday morning. It's a great way to develop the habit of reading God's Word daily. It only takes a few minutes each day. One family told me that they do it during breakfast. What a wonderful way for your kids to start the day!

We introduced a new BGMC contest this last Sunday. It's called, "Big Green Money Challenge." For every green bill they bring in they get a point. Our goal is to reach 100 bills in 8 weeks. It doesn't have to be dollar bills. It can be $5, $10, $20, etc. I've encouraged the kids to earn this money and not just ask for it. Giving to missions is a great opportunity for kids to "Reach Out" to those who need help.

I'm so thankful that I have the opportunity to be with your children! Please know that I pray for them daily! And YOU! Parents have an awesome responsibilty in raising children. Please let me know how I can pray for your family.

Until next week...

Well...

I thought I would attempt to join the blogging world. Hopefully it will be a place for me to share my thoughts. You never know what you might hear from me. Who knows, it might be worthwhile. Enjoy!
